Manhattan was a sleeper hit last year, earning positive buzz for its exploration of a gently fictionalized history of the Manhattan Project and the atomic bomb it created. So for its second-season trailer, the show is confident enough to rely solely on creepy, abstract imagery. Calling to mind the best images from Terminator 2 (and Terminator Genisys, oddly), the trailer centers on calm, domestic scenes that dissolve before our eyes as characters break into particles and get swept away. Coupled with the tagline “The fallout begins,” the trailers paints an eerie picture of the themes Manhattan will be exploring in its second season, if not too many of the specific plot points.

Manhattan returns to WGN on October 13.
